Open Access Policy – Publications

According to FCT, MED researchers must ensure Open Access to academic publications and other results in compliance with the FCT Open Access Policy, namely they must “Deposit all academic publications generated by the R&D Unit in one of the national Open Access repositories belonging to the RCAAP network, as soon as possible”.

As an example, the repository of the University of Évora belongs to RCAAP – Repositórios Científicos de Acesso Aberto de Portugal network.

See the following translated excerpt from the FCT website FAQ for more information:

“My home institution does not have its repository. Am I or am I not able to comply with the Open Access Policy? How should I proceed?

All beneficiaries of FCT funding are presently able to comply with the requirement of depositing the publications they make under the funding granted. A good part of the national higher education and scientific research institutions have their own repositories integrated into the RCAAP network. Other institutions, despite not having their repository, maintain a presence in the common repository of RCAAP. The common repository integrates the communities and respective collections that correspond to those institutions. Authors affiliated with institutions that do not yet have their repository can deposit their publications in the RCAAP common repository and thus comply with the conditions of the Open Access Policy. For more information about RCAAP’s common repository, see the information available online.”

Reference to funding project

Funding section

In case of MED’s financial support, the publications must have a “Funding” section that should include:

Authors holding a Ph.D. fellowship financed by MED should use the reference given to that specific fellowship by FCT.

Flyers, books, magazines, posters, posters and any other printed materials must include MED, Portuguese Republic, and FCT logos, available in the “Logos” section.
