About
Francisco Gutierres joined Esri Portugal in 2025 as GIS consultant and previoulsy worked as Geospatial Product Owner at Geotrilho Geosolutions, and GIS Senior Analyst and Geomatics manager at OPT/NET B.V. He has been involved in GIS-based analyses and developing customized GeoAI solutions for the Mining sector, Raw materials, Emergency systems (flood detection and Illegal fishing), ARD generation, LiDAR integration and visualization, GIS workflows and spatial analysis processes for the extraction and definition of the asset inventory data model on Portugal’s highway network (Brisa) and Environmental monitoring.He has PhD in Physical Geography, Master in Conservation Biology, Postgraduation in GIS Applied to Sciences of the Earth, PhD specialization in Geo-Ecological Data Analysis and a Licenciatura's Degree in Biophysical Engineering – Environmental Planning and Management.Holds 4 Remote Sensing Technical Certification - European Space Agency (ESA) - Copernicus & ESRI; 8 Esri Technical Certification (including ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, DBMS); 8 Certifications of Flora and Vegetation; 25 Certifications of Geographic Information Technologies, Business Intelligence, Geographic Modeling, Statistical Analysis and Database Management Systems; 1 Certifications of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), 1 Certification of Territorial Planning & 1 Certification of Sustainable Management in the Extractive Industry.Francisco Gutierres has contributed to over 77 publications (including 8 book chapters), holds 1 patent application (MYGEOSS initiative - Geoapp ́Mohana - MOnitoring of HAbitats at the level of a NAtura 2000 site ́); serves as accredited lecturer (AQU) at the universities of catalonia “Barcelona Technology School (BTS)”, “Jesuïtes Educació- UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya)” and “Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)”; jury member in 3 Master’s thesis at the IGOT-UL and 1 Doctoral thesis at the UPC; Ad hoc reviewer of 13 international scientific journals; member of the Coastal Education & Research Foundation, Inc. (CERF)- USA; Metadata Manager in accordance with the Inspire Directive accredited by the Directorate General of Territory (DGT); and is external expert to assist in the evaluation of EU grant applications for the European Commission (EC).Before joining Esri Portugal, Francisco worked for 20 years as a GIS and Environmental specialist in national and local government and private industry.
