Carla Janeiro has more than 25 years of professional experience in civil society organisations, working in the fields of nature conservation, biodiversity and sustainable development. Throughout her career, she has worked as a volunteer, technical expert, project manager, consultant and association leader. She has been involved in the design and implementation of projects focused on nature conservation, environmental awareness and education, natural resource management and sustainable development, working in collaboration with academic institutions, public bodies, local authorities, companies and civil society organisations in Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP).

Her experience also includes the coordination of international projects, notably the Mapping of Green Initiatives in Cabo Verde, carried out for the International Labour Organization, with the aim of contributing to the promotion of the green economy in the country.

She holds a Master's degree in Biological Resources Management, through which she conducted research on the habitat suitability of the Moura-Barrancos Site for the Iberian lynx, aiming to contribute to species conservation and to strengthen the links between science and action on the ground. She is currently a PhD student in Sustainability Sciences at the University of Évora, where she aims to further investigate innovative solutions for biodiversity conservation through biodiversity credits. Her research project includes a proposal for a biodiversity credit mechanism for the Montado ecosystem.
