About

Natália Tomás Marques has a degree from the Classical University of Lisbon, Faculty of Sciences, in Applied Plant Biology in 1991. She has a PhD from the University of Algarve, in the area of Biological Sciences, specializing in Biotechnology, which she completed in 2004. The domains areas of activity are Biological Sciences, with an emphasis on Molecular Biology, Virology and Plant Genetic Engineering. She was a member of the Board of the Degree in Biology and Degree in Biotechnology courses. In her academic work supervision activities, she co-supervises or co-supervised two doctoral theses and four master's theses. She has published several articles in specialized journals in the field of Virology on Citrus tristeza virus with an emphasis on the analysis of genomic variability and the virus's silencing suppressor genes. She has published articles in the field of molecular analysis of the synthesis of terpene compounds produced by Thymus spp. and more recently published articles in the area of plant-pathogen interactions. Regarding research projects, she received the Ceratonia prize on a research proposal sponsored by Banco Santander Totta. She was the responsible researcher for the SourUnion project that studied the decline disease that occurs as a result of the interaction between the rootstock Citrus aurantium and Citrus tristeza virus. It is part of the PRE-HLB project funded by H2020 regarding the study of the psyllid Trioza erytreae, vector of the Huanglongbing disease that affects citrus fruits.
