About
She earned her degree in Agronomic Engineering, specializing in Horticulture, in 2008, and her master's degree in Horticulture in 2013, both from the University of Algarve (UALG), Portugal. From 2020 to 2025, she pursued a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences through a doctoral program jointly offered by the University of Algarve and the University of Évora. Her doctoral research culminated in a dissertation entitled “Innovative Strategies to Optimize Iron Use in Horticultural Crops.” During this period, she was supported by a doctoral fellowship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
Her research has focused primarily on plant nutrition and fertilization, particularly iron chlorosis, through her participation in national research projects that have resulted in several technical and scientific publications. In recent years, she has continued her work in the Plant Nutrition Laboratory, developing a broad and diverse research profile through field, pot, and hydroponic experiments using different cultivation systems. Her research has involved a wide range of horticultural and perennial crop species, including cabbage, strawberry, carob, citrus rootstocks, and orange trees. In these studies, she was responsible for crop management practices and overseeing the production cycle.
She has tested new fertilizers for ADP – Adubos de Portugal, S.A. (ADP) and evaluated crop growth and nutritional status at VAISA – Agricultura Intensiva, S.A. (Vitacress). Her laboratory expertise includes the determination of mineral composition in plant tissues, spectrophotometric assays of enzyme activity, and metabolomics analyses using liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS). She has also conducted analyses of the organoleptic and commercial quality of fruit. In addition, she has collaborated on research activities conducted by faculty members and visiting students at the laboratory.
During this period, she also had the opportunity to co-supervise the practical components of several undergraduate internships. Throughout her professional career, she has developed a broad range of technical skills, specialized knowledge, practical experience, and a strong sense of responsibility, while working directly with growers, technical professionals, and researchers in the agricultural sector. She also has experience using statistical software, particularly IBM SPSS Statistics, and preparing technical reports.
She has presented scientific research at national and international symposia through oral presentations and poster presentations. She has also participated in outreach activities when requested. She is the author or coauthor of several scientific articles published in internationally circulated, peer-reviewed journals.
