A biologist by vocation and training, she divides her interests between Flora and Funga, with forest environments being her greatest fascination and the primary driver of her research, scientific outreach, and university extension work. As a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Evora, she teaches with the hope of instilling scientific curiosity and a solid ecological conscience in those who listen to her. As Head of the MacroMicology Laboratory (MED), she supervises and conducts studies ranging from the diversity, conservation, and management of Mycological Resources to Mycorrhizal Synthesis between plants and fungi—focusing both on the production of edible mushrooms and truffles and the restoration of degraded areas.
