About

Patrícia Bacalhau has a background in supramolecular chemistry and biochemical mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Algarve (Portugal), an MSc degree in Chemistry Teaching and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Évora. Her training in molecular synthesis started in 1999 at ITQB, where Patrícia developed lanthanide coordinated crown azamacrocycles (radiolabelled with 153Sm) for therapeutic use in bone cancer. During her Ph.D research , Patrícia engaged the study of the biochemical mechanisms involved in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Her main results involved the discovery of a lead compound with therapeutic benefits for AD, several peer reviewed papers, 3 patent and her investigation also produced numerous presentations in international congresses. She’s the Science Manager of the LABscape team and collaborator of the Chemistry Center at University of Évora and LAQV REQUIMTE -  Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry of the Network of Chemistry and Technology.
