MED Projects | TransforMed – 2nd Meeting

Nov 28, 2025MED News

Between 18 and 20 November 2025, the second general meeting of the TransforMed project took place in Konya, Turkey. This project aims to support and  promote the large-scale adoption of agroforestry systems (AFS) in saline and degraded areas of Morocco, Tunisia, and Turkey.

MED is part of this consortium as the entity responsible for the pillar dedicated to policies for AFS adoption, particularly through the development of results-based models (RBM) tailored to local contexts.

The experience gained by the MED team, led by researcher Helena Guimarães, in the context of the Montado — through measures such as Gestão do Montado por Resultados  and the Tertúlias do Montado platform — is reference, supporting knowledge transfer to enhance agroforestry systems in other Mediterranean regions.

During the meeting, the main results from the first year of work were presented, focusing on the characterization of national policies and governance systems to identify where and how an RBM can be integrated into the targeted territories. This process included the analysis of legislation and strategic documents, the application of more than 80 surveys to farmers and 40 stakeholder interviews, as well as workshops and field visits, carried out in close collaboration with partners from each country.

The next steps were also defined, including visioning workshops aimed at refining and validating the results already achieved to support the co-creation of RBMs adapted to each case study.

In May next year, MED will host the partners for a learning route organized in partnership with DAC – Dryland Agroforestry Cente, which will include the exchange of experiences with researchers, producers and other stakeholders, as well as a visit to a farm where RBM is being implemented.
