University of Évora, through MED, joins BioData.pt and the ELIXIR Portugal Node

The University of Évora’s application to the BIP4DAB Association, submitted through MED – Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development, was unanimously approved, formalising the University’s integration into the national BioData.pt research infrastructure and the ELIXIR Portugal Node.

The membership process was promoted by MED and builds on the Institute’s existing scientific, technical and infrastructural expertise, particularly in the generation, management, integration and analysis of biological, agricultural and environmental data, bioinformatics, omics technologies and advanced data modelling.

The BIP4DAB Association, which is responsible for the national BioData.pt research infrastructure, also represents and operates the Portuguese Node of ELIXIR, the European Life-Science Infrastructure for Biological Information. ELIXIR brings together resources, tools, services, computing capacity, standards and training to support the management, analysis, integration and reuse of life sciences data.

This membership strengthens the connection of the University of Évora and MED to national and European infrastructures dedicated to Life Sciences data, creating new opportunities for specialised training, scientific collaboration, access to services and participation in projects in areas relevant to several of MED’s research lines.

Participation in the network will also enable MED to contribute its own expertise, data, methodologies and resources, fostering closer links with other national and European institutions. This may enhance the visibility of MED’s existing expertise, increase the use and impact of resources developed by its teams, and promote new connections among researchers, technicians, data managers and computing specialists.
