Victor Caeiro Laboratory of Parasitology (VCLP)

Historical, present and future aspects strengthening collaboration with the

Institute of Parasitology from the University of Bern (IPB):

Establishment of molecular diagnostic tools at the VCLP

Associated Professor, Victor Caeiro Laboratory of Parasitology, Department of Veterinary, Medicine, MED, University of Évora, Adjuncted researcher at the Institute of Parasitology, University of Bern, Switzerland.

Norbert Müller
Former Associated Professor at the Institute of Parasitology, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Switzerland, involved in various basic and applied research projects as head of the human parasitology unit.

Summary: After a brief historical review of the activities at the Victor Caeiro Laboratory of Parasitology (VCLP), Norbert Müller will present the diagnostic PCRs developed at the IPB in Switzerland and now established at the VCLP/MED. He will also exemplify the potential applicability of these PCRs for the diagnosis, epidemiology and genotyping in the field of parasitology. Finally, a whole genome sequencing approach complementing PCR-based genotyping will be presented.
