O Laboratório de Microbiologia do Solo dedica-se ao estudo dos micróbios do solo com efeitos benéficos no crescimento de plantas, nomeadamente micorrizas, rizóbios e outras bactérias promotoras do crescimento de plantas (PGPB). Investigamos não só a interação destes micróbios com os seus hospedeiros, mas também a sua contribuição para o melhoramento do crescimento das plantas, especialmente em condições de stress (biótico ou abiótico).

Prestação de serviços e Cooperação

O Laboratório de Microbiologia do Solo estabelece cooperações com agricultores, no sentido de explorar práticas agrícolas que maximizem os efeitos benéficos do microbioma do solo, nomeadamente na perspetiva de ultrapassar os efeitos de constrições químicas do solo ou da presença de agentes patogénicos.

Em termos de serviços mais específicos o Laboratório de Microbiologia do Solo realiza:

-Avaliação de taxas de colonização micorrízica;

-Avaliação de parâmetros do solo relacionados com a atividade microbiana (atividades enzimáticas, taxa de respiração, C microbiano);

-Quantificação de populações de rizóbio;

-Deteção da presença no solo de rizóbios adequados à leguminosa que se pretende cultivar.
