NemaLab welcomes researcher from Meiji University to strengthen Portugal–Japan collaboration

On 25 May, NemaLab, the Nematology Laboratory at MED-UÉvora, welcomed Professor Ryoji Shinya, a researcher from Meiji University (Tokyo, Japan), and his PhD student, Yusuki Ikeda, as part of efforts to strengthen scientific collaboration between the two institutions.
The visit had a broad institutional scope, including a reception hosted by Fátima Baptista, Director of MED, and Maria do Rosário Félix, head of the Virology and Mycology Laboratory at MED-UÉvora. The main objective was to deepen scientific exchange in nematology and lay the foundations for the formalisation of an inter-university memorandum of understanding.
An expert on the pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus), Professor Shinya took part in meetings that enabled the identification of synergies not only with NemaLab, but also with other lines of research at MED in the field of plant pathology.
The initiative reflects the efforts of MED and NemaLab to consolidate international partnerships that enhance research in nematology and promote the exchange of scientific and technical knowledge with world-leading institutions. This collaboration represents an important step towards the development of joint projects and the mobility of researchers between Portugal and Japan.
