A team of researchers from MED&CHANGE will represent Portugal at the SOILATHON European Final, a co-creation marathon that brings together farmers, scientists, policy-makers, funders and other key figures to develop practical and innovative solutions for increasing organic carbon in agricultural soils.

The MED&CHANGE team, from the University of Évora, secured one of the only two places in the national stage of the SOILATHON. The winning team included researchers João Canedo, Ana Caroline Royer, Denis Medinas and Gustavo Ferreira, as well as Inês Barracha and Ricardo Cardoso (AFLOSOR), João Goes (farmer) and Sónia Martins (Ponte de Sor Municipal Council).

For seven hours, the team worked side by side with various stakeholders from the sector in a co-creation exercise focused on practical and scalable solutions to increase organic carbon in agricultural soils.

SOILATHON is part of the European Union’s Soil Mission and is a working space open to all participants, focused on concrete results.

This success reflects the team’s commitment to combining scientific knowledge and innovation to generate real impact in the ground, delivering value to those who work the land.
