Maria Helena Guimarães, a researcher at MED, University of Évora, took part as a guest speaker at the 5th Latin American Congress on Interdisciplinary Research and Higher Education (IEI2026) in Santiago, Chile, from 1 to 4 September.

The researcher delivered the plenary lecture ‘Conditions for transdisciplinary research: the Labscape experience at the University of Évora, Portugal’, in which she presented the work carried out at the Mediterranean Landscape Systems LAB, part of MED – University of Évora, and reflected on the conditions necessary for the implementation of transdisciplinary research processes.

The congress aims to bring together various scientific disciplines — both natural and social — alongside the humanities and the arts, to address the contemporary challenges facing Latin America through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches.

Held every two years, it provides an opportunity to reflect on and exchange views regarding the study of problems whose resolution extends beyond the scope of a single discipline.

The Latin American Congress on Interdisciplinary Research and Higher Education is organised by the Latin American research network on inter- and transdisciplinarity, which will be represented at the ITD27 Conference, to be hosted by MED & CHANGE at the University of Évora.
